A Travel to the History
Located in the Castle Creek Valley, Ashcroft Ghost Town is a place full of cultural heritage for those who want to learn about it. This town has fifteen buildings in the townsite from which ten are in their original locations, while twleve are original and three unoriginal buildings. For instance, the marcantile store, the assay office, the blacksmith's shop are transplants from Woods Lake. An interesting fact is that all buildings have been restored and the roofs are somehow new. Thus, Blue Mirror Saloon and the Poet's Cabin, for example, have been rebuilt in order to maintain such constructions in excellent conditions.
The town also has saloons to provide a meeting place for miners and local people. The main purpose of saloons is to play cards, exchange information, and transact business. According to a Ashcroft Journal, there is nothing of the burial ground, and it is possible that the cementery was near the Elk Mountain Lodge. Besides, this place is well-known for being a healthy mining camp wherein the town was far away from the mine. The economy of this town was based on transportation routes and the mines.
Another feature of this place is the false fronts of buildings in order to create the illusion of majestic buildings and to provide advertising space. The best activities available for tourists are ski and hiking. To savor a delicious lunch or dinner, you may go to the restaurant, the Pine Creek Cookhouse in the Castle Creek Valley. It is open daily, and you can also enjoy guided tours throughout the area. Revive the history of a wonderful place that has a significant value.
