Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park

The Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park is located in Colorado, 45 miles west of Denver on I-70. The railroad is a wonder of engineering originally constructed in 1884 which fulfilled the hopes of the citizens of Georgetown and helped it become a flourishing settlement connecting it to Denver and points east.

As the railroad made to connect Silver Plume to Georgetown was built, the tracks required several curves, loops, cuts, fills, and trestles accounting for 4.5 miles. The railroad tracks scaled an altitude of 640 feet above the rocky terrain. Currently, the Georgetown Loop is popular among the tourists once again offering a different way to appreciate the Clear Creek Valley. Many activities are held along the route, such as guided tours and information of the Lebanon Silver Mine, as well as a video of the history of the Loop that is continuously playing at both the Devil’s Gate Boarding Area and the Silver Plume Depot. Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park has an area of 978 acres which includes an 1884 depot, two 1860s mines, the Morrison Interpretive Center, four reconstructed mine buildings, the 1874 Pohle House, a locomotive maintenance building, a new rolling stock shelter, and an 1871 mill building.
