Trinidad History Museum

Located in El Corazón de Trinidad National Historic District, the Trinidad History Museum is a great place to visit if you come to Colorado. Trinidad was founded in 1861 on the Santa Fe Trail, quickly blooming until becoming a lively frontier city. Later, when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway arrived in 1878, Trinidad flourished further and established as a commercial, coal-mining, and agricultural center.

Among the attractions of the museum are included the Baca House, the Bloom Mansion, the Historic Gardens, and the Santa Fe Trail. The Baca House was built in 1873 by Felipe and Dolores Baca for John Hough, a Trail entrepreneur. This two-story residence has a widow’s walk as well as Greek architectural details. Victorian furniture, colorful Rio Grande fabrics, and other furnishing from the past lets you experience the lifestyle of this well-known family. The Bloom Mansion, a Victorian house constructed by cattle baron and banker Frank Bloom and his wife Sarah in 1882, has a French style that uses locally manufactured bricks. You can also find inside precious porcelain figures, a horn chair, and an assortment of other objects and furnishings from the time. In the Historic Gardens you can admire old stock grape vines, trumpet vines, very old trees, and flowers of all colors. Finally, in the Santa Fe Trail Museum you can have a glance at the historic pictures, family heirlooms, and commercial goods from the Trail days.
